Fines

Need to talk to our fines unit, or settle a fine you didn’t pay on board? You have a range of payment options.

  • on the Internet: pay your fine remotely on our secure site contravention-sncf.fr
For the English version of the site, click on the UK flag.
  • at the station: go to the window and pay in cash, or by credit card, check or postal order. Please be sure to bring your penalty payment slip—your payment cannot be recorded without it
  • by mail: make your cheque or postal order payable to SNCF and send it to the centre at the address on the back of your penalty payment slip

Under Articles 529-3 through 529-30 of the French code of criminal procedure, your penalty notice constitutes a proposed settlement. If you pay the settlement amount within the statutory two-month deadline, you will not be prosecuted. If you do not pay within two months, the penalty notice is forwarded to a French public prosecutor, and you must pay an increased fine of €180 or €375, depending on the nature of the penalty (Class 3 or Class 4).
