Bicycle touring

10/04/30

Want to take a cycling holiday? Take your bike on the train! Cycle spaces are available on most trains.

For a cycling holiday or a weekend cycle tour there’s no question of leaving without your bike!  On most trains there are special spaces reserved for cycles.  Take your bike with you on the train when you set off to where you’re staying.  Whether assembled or dismantled, there’ll be room for your bike.

Most trains have spaces specially reserved for cycles. Book yours for only 10 euros when you buy your train ticket. You can take your cycle on any train if it is dismantled and stored in the luggage compartment.  It must however be carried in a special fitted cover, available from sports shops.

On TER services your cycle can even be carried without prior reservation in for example, the Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne, Limousin and Alsace regions.

On Transilien services, your bike can be carried at no additional cost on any day except during peak periods.  New trains are now fitted with special cycle racks. On arrival, you will find cycle shelters at more than 150 stations.

Worried?  You can’t go wrong… all trains equipped to take bicycles are marked on the timetable by a small bicycle symbol.

Your bicycle can also travel unaccompanied using the Door-to-Door Luggage service. It couldn’t be easier - just call 36 35 (0.34 euros per min incl. VAT) then enter 45 or say “Bagage” with a nice French accent! All the information you need is at your fingertips onwww.velo.sncf.com (new window)
“Cycle points” are even available at some stations so you can spruce up your bicycle before your grand departure! In the pipeline: secure cycle storage, repair shops and cycle hire points.
