The SNCF's 4,000 scientists and engineers now have their own web-based network to promote joint-working and innovation.

Open. The SNCF Innovation & Research Division launched its own web 2.0 social network in June 2010. It draws together everyone involved in the SNCF's research programme - researchers, engineers and experts from our Synapses network as well as external partners, research laboratories, universities or contractors. Staff and partners of the SNCF can exchange scientific and technical information. If you are interested in railway research, you are welcome to join.

Collaborative. The idea of the system is to foster exchange and sharing of ideas and hot topics. It's a place where groups can work together on a research area or project. The system also features a library full of articles, files, microblogs (less than 200 characters), links and news that can be accessed via the RSS feed. It's an ideal location for selecting a project team by browsing through personal profiles. With the tags and keywords assigned to publications, it is easy to search for information, and community interaction is promoted, since all publications can be commented on.

Strategic. This collaborative system brings together a whole range of talent and expertise in order to promote innovation and research.
