SNCFDIRECT has been wildly successful. It works like a virtual departures or arrivals board on a mobile phone (iPhone, Blackberry and soon Android phones) or an iPad. 600 mainline and Paris region stations are featured. The app sends you an alert when your train is ready for boarding or if it is running late. Using mobile positioning technology, the application can also give you directions to your nearest station. You can book tickets with a single click, find out about in-station services and retail outlets and listen to SNCF La Radio, which will give you location-specific rail service updates every 15 minutes!
TER Mobile offers similar mobile functionalities for daily commuters. The termobile.fr site is accessible from any mobile that has Internet and can be used to generate directions, find out the next train departures and get information on service disruptions. With the iPhone and Android versions, the positioning functionality is used to give you directions to the nearest station. A Google Map allows you to track your journey in real-time, giving you information about connections at each station en route. This information can then be shared with the person who is coming to meet you.
