European mobility for young people

TransEuropean project

10/03/29

On 30 March 2010, twenty-seven willing high-school students set off for a 3-week trip to four European capitals - London, Brussels, Berlin and Madrid.

They have been planning since September with their teachers, preparing for their journey as part of the TransEuropean programme set up by the SNCF's charity, Fondation Solidarité, and the association Mouvement Européen-France. The aim of this experimental project is to raise the awareness of young people with regard to European mobility.

According to the teachers, 'the TransEuropean project has helped us to teach our subjects and disciplines in an exciting new way for our students - not only the curriculum but also life skills.'

The TransEuropean programme was launched in 2008, and is the first pilot project by a corporate foundation to enable marginalized young people to travel and discover Europe. The students are given responsibilities throughout the project, preparing the educational aspects of the journey to feeding back on their experiences to their friends and fellow pupils.
