And the winners are... Following in the wake of Kiki de Montparnasse (by Catel and Bocquet, published by Casterman), which won the FNAC-SNCF prize in 2008, Mon gras et moi by Gally, published by Diantre has carried the public vote at this year's festival. The railway workers voted for Emile Bravo with his album Spirou, le journal d’un ingénu (pub. Dupuis). The prize for best album was awarded to Pinocchio by Winshluss (published by Requins Marteaux). The City of Angoulême 2009 prize went to Blutch. The author of Petit Christian will now go on to chair the selection panel at the 37th International Comics Festival in January 2010.

The story goes back a long way... Trains are great places to read and the atmosphere of stations are an unending source of inspiration for writers. It seems an obvious fit for the SNCF to support books and literature. The SNCF Thriller Prize is awarded by more than 2,000 fans every year. The En Train de Lire operation has been delighting commuters with public readings for 10 years now. In the last two years, the Voyage en page collection, published in conjunction with Gallimard Jeunesse has released 15 books and sold 100,000 copies in trains and stations. The SNCF has also sponsored thePrintemps des Poètes poetry festival ever since it started. We have opened a Lecteur Studio at the Paris Salon du Livre literature fair and we host a (free) Literary Webcast on our website (the site you are on now). The SNCF has supported the Angoulême International Comics Festival International ever since it began and is now its leading sponsor, alongside FNAC.

Forward thinking - for comics too! The big idea has been to get all the different genres of comic and graphic novel writing out to a wider audience. In the stations: you have enjoyed browsing through our comic book libraries. At sncf.com: you could check out the first four pages of the shortlisted albums for the Official Selection and voted for your favourite in the FNAC-SNCF prize. You were able to find out which blogger had won the SNCF quiz game, and check out his or her reports, interviews and impressions of the Festival. At the festival, you could immerse yourself in the colouring wall and watch a theatre company act out the story of two albums at the Official Selection stand. It's was all go from 29 January to 1 February 2009 - especially for your enjoyment!
