A complete programmeThe SNCF has already been teaching children from primary school to high school for 20 years. However, since September 2006, the agreement signed with the French education authorities has taken the project to another level and breathed new life into it.460 voluntary staff, from all professions, have been trained using state-of-the-art teaching methods and educational material. Short films provide the starting point for debate while quizzes help the new information sink in. During the 2009-200 school year, the School Intervention programme grabbed the attention of almost 200,000 young people in its "Rail Passenger Citizenship" programme.
Meaningful commitmentElectrical risks, crossing tracks, and other deadly games lead to dozens of deaths and serious injuries every year. Throwing stones at trains, tagging a seat with graffiti, or just bumping into someone are daily nuisances. To bring home the concepts of safety and citizenship, the SNCF is playing its part in educating the younger generation.
