Did I hear you say 'intermodality'?

Intermodality from end to end

07/07/06

Passing from one mode of transport to another without thinking about it, travelling from start to finish without restrictions: that's the intermodality of the future.

All-in-one or nothing at all
That is how customers imagine the day-to-day transport of the future. Leaving home by bus to get to the station, reaching the platform (a few steps away) and taking a train (without changing tickets) to your destination station where a tramcar takes you to the office door.

It is a journey made easy with just one ticket at just one fare, made into a smooth journey by well-timed connections and information in real time from start to finish.

This is the SNCF group's recipe
A mixture of modes of transport with a large pinch of innovative common services to bind it all together. List of the "home-made" ingredients.

* 40% of TER (regional trains) connect to urban transport networks (underground, tram, bus) and 20% to mainline services. In this respect, the tram-trains in Bondy, Strasbourg or Nantes are an SNCF service, and Keolis is the market leader in urban transport across France with 40% of the market.
* Smart cards simplify access to transport, especially when they are multimodal (TER, underground, tram, bus), as in Alsace and Brittany. And the season ticket home delivery service (Tapas) makes life easier.
* Interchange hubs are riding the crest of a wave. The one in Saint-Malo allows instant connections between trains and buses. The one in Dijon is multimodal: it links the TER with intercity lines and to all bus networks (including the Divia urban network operated by Keolis), not to mention the car park managed by Effia.
* Multimodal transport information offers one-click access to the entire public transport offer in the region (including plane travel). This services is available at Toulouse station and via a website developed by Effia in the Pays de Loire region.

Intermodality is the future of local transport, and it all started thanks to the synergies within the SNCF Group.

A word from the boss

“In Keolis and Effia, the SNCF Group has a strategic advantage. It operates all modes of transport, from buses to the underground and trains, and offers a more and more extensive variety of intermodal services.”
