His career

French karate champion Steven Da Costa was born on 23 January 1997 in Mont-Saint-Martin, near the French-Belgian border. He took the gold medal in the Cadets competition at the 2012 European Championships, and went on to win a series of Junior titles, including Junior World Champion in 2013.

He continued to win as a Senior, landing the gold at the 2015 French national championships in the under-67 kg weight class and the silver at the European Games that same year.

Since then Steven has turned in one stellar performance after another, winning the European title for individual kumite in Montpellier in 2016 and the gold medal at the World Games in Poland the following year.

Serving commuters

In 2017, as his athletic career continued to thrive, Steven joined the SNCF Athletes programme and became a customer care agent on Line C of the RER rail system serving Paris region commuters.
