A graduate of École Polytechnique and École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Guillaume Marbach began his career in 2002 at the French Ministry of Equipment and Transport, heading a unit that carried out major road works in Isère, in South-eastern France. In 2007 he joined SNCF, where he ran two facilities tasked with maintenance and engineering works on the French rail network in the Alpes and Rhône-Alpes regions.

In 2012 he was named general manager of Fer de France, a trade association representing the entire French rail industry, and later became industrial development manager in the Rolling Stock Division at SNCF Mobilités.
