At Gares & Connexions, we believe that rail stations should be bustling centres of urban life. As we translate this new concept into reality, we are serving local communities by:

  • designing and outfitting stations to provide better connections with other modes of transport and address the needs of local communities
  • making stations efficient and welcoming by keeping passengers comfortable, ensuring access for all, and providing multimodal information in real time.
  • administering stations and enhancing their value through a combination of shops, public services, programmes and events

Saint Lazare, Paris: a station for the 21st century

Located in the heart of the leading shopping area in Paris, the Saint Lazare station is Europe’s second-busiest, with traffic of 450,000 travellers a day—yet it was failing to provide the high-quality services and amenities worthy of a station in the French capital. Gares & Connexions has transformed Saint Lazare into a seamless multimodal hub that handles 1,600 trains a day, 27 bus lines and six metro and regional train lines. At the same time, the station has become a unique shopping centre with 80 retailers to meet everyday needs and cater to modern tastes. We managed the €250 million overhaul over a ten-year period with no interruption in rail traffic.
