6 easy-to-explore itineraries in Burgundy

Burgundy—famous for its hills, vineyards, unforgettable cuisine, cultural heritage and charming towns—invites you to experience its Tour de Bourgogne à vélo® itineraries. This network of greenways offers six easy-to-explore routes: Burgundy Canal, Nivernais Canal, Central Canal, Vineyard Tour, Southern Burgundy and Burgundy Loire.

An iconic journey from Alsace to the mouth of the Loire

Let this famous French cycling route take you from the shores of the Rhine to the estuary where the Loire River meets the Atlantic. EuroVelo 6 (EV6) runs through southern Alsace along the Rhône-Rhine Canal, winds through the Doubs valley in the Jura hills, and follows the Central and Nivernais Canals through Southern Burgundy. The trail continues along the Loire past château after château, following the royal river until it reaches the Atlantic.

A long, lovely ride through the beautiful Loire Valley

With 800 km of bike routes winding past châteaux, authentic villages and vineyards, the Loire Valley is a must for cycling enthusiasts. UNESCO has listed the region as a World Heritage site, and it has many natural beauties as well. The Val de Loire also offers a full range of services, including Interloire trains, so you can create a custom ride that’s perfect for you.

A bracing ride from Southern England to the Basque Coast

On Vélodyssée, you'll see over 1,200 km of countryside with the ocean as your companion. Once in France, the itinerary follows the Nantes-Brest canal through Brittany and then hugs the Atlantic coast all the way to the Basque Coast in northern Spain. This well-marked route takes you past sandy beaches, coastal forests and charming fishing ports—and with no cars 80% of the way, it’s perfect for a family holiday.

From the Rhône to the Mediterranean: Retracing 2,000 years of history

The ViaRhôna cycling trail takes you from the shores of Lake Léman to the beaches of the Mediterranean, with the Rhône River as your guide. Between the Alps and the sea, explore the rich, 2,000-year history of this storied river—a vital artery for multiple civilizations—and enjoy its villages, vineyards and cuisine. The full ViaRhôna is still unfinished, but a 450-km trail is now open to experienced cyclists.

From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean

This new itinerary offers cycling with a Southern accent, taking you from the beaches of the Atlantic to the beaches of the Mediterranean. Cycle along the Garonne Canal and the Canal du Midi, stopping to enjoy French cuisine, culture and curiosities. The trail is still being developed from the east of Toulouse to the Mediterranean.

A European excursion through Alsace, Switzerland and the Netherlands

From the source of the Rhine in Switzerland to the shores of the North Sea in the Netherlands, the Véloroute Rhin (EuroVelo 15) follows the legendary river for over 1,320 km. Explore Alsace as you pedal along a 180-km segment of trail from Huningue, near Basel, to Lauterbourg. France and Germany meet in this thoroughly European excursion, appropriate for all cycling levels

Linking London and Paris

The Avenue Verte London-Paris takes you from England to France, crossing the Channel with the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry. Cycle along greenways and small, well-signposted roads as you explore Southern England, the Alabaster Coast, the scenic Pays de Bray, the Epte Valley and the Vexin region, then follow the Oise and Seine rivers to the City of Light.

Destination: Mont-Saint-Michel

The Véloscénie itinerary guides you from the Paris region through Versailles, Chartres and scenic Normandy, all the way to the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. The Chevreuse Valley, the hilly Perche and Maine regions and the hedgerows of the Bocage Normand accompany you on your way. And with our Train+Vélo service, you can spend all your time on the greenway segments of the route—just take SNCF trains in between. Your bike can travel with you.

455-km cross-Channel adventure

Combine activity and contemplation with the Petit Tour de Manche, which runs along the English and French coasts on either side of the English Channel. The 455-km itinerary, covering a portion of the EuroVelo 4 cycling route, takes you to places of stunning natural beauty, including Normandy’s Vire Valley and Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and England’s Weymouth Bay and Jurassic Coast.

1,200-km cross-Channel adventure

Choose this 1,200-km cross-Channel itinerary to enjoy a wide a range of coastal scenery. Incorporating the Petit Tour de Manche and a section of the EuroVelo 4 cycling route, the Tour de Manche lets you go at your own pace. Breathe the fresh sea air as you pedal around Brittany’s Bay of Morlaix and Pink Granite Coast, past Normandy’s Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and on to England’s Jurassic Coast and Dartmoor National Park.

The new cycling route from Normandy to the Atlantic

Set your own pace with Vélo Francette®, a new itinerary that winds along the rivers of Western France from Normandy to the Atlantic Coast. Enjoy 600 km of La Douce France at its best as you cycle from the ferry port of Ouistreham to the famous towers of La Rochelle, on a route dotted with charming villages and scenic beaches.
